Brian Acton is an American internet entrepreneur and computer programmer best known as the co-founder of WhatsApp. A computer science graduate from Stanford University, Acton began his career as a system administrator for Rockwell International. Furthermore, he worked with companies such as Adobe, Apple and Yahoo Inc. systems. He invested in the dot-com boom but lost millions during the 2000 dot-com crash. Career
- He began his career in 1992 inaugurated as a system administrator in the now-defunct American manufacturing conglomerate, Rockwell International. He then worked as a product tester at the American multinational technology company Apple Inc. and in the American multinational computer software company, Adobe Systems.
- He joined Yahoo Inc. in 1996 as the 44th employee who was appointed in the company. For the next eleven years he worked for Yahoo where Jan Koum also joined as an infrastructure engineer in 1998. Meanwhile Acton continued to invest during the dotcom boom. He must have lost millions in the 2000 dot-com bubble.
- In 2007 he received the Yahoo Super Star award. He and Koum left Yahoo in September of that year. They then took a break for a year during that time they traveled across South America and played the ultimate frisbee. Both also face rejection after applying to work on Facebook.
- After Koum bought an iPhone in January 2009, he realized the potential of the seven-month-old App Store in spawning an entirely new application industry in the near future.
