Adam Weitsman is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, who is the owner and Chief Executive Officer of Upstate Shredding - Weitsmaan Recycling. He opened Upstate Shredding in 1997, and despite major weaknesses that even sent him to prison, he managed to lift the company to the level of an industry leader. He later joined their family memo processing company, Ben Weitsman & Son in 2016, which Adam Weitsman obtained from his father in 2005. He won the 'Business of the Year' award in Tioga County in 2010. He appeared in March-April 2013 on 'American Metal Market Magazine'.

He received the 'Platts Industry Leadership Award' and 'AMM Scrap Company of the Year' twice in 2015 and 2016. An antique collector, he has donated some of his pots to the New York State Museum in Albany. He renovated the Krebs restaurant his wife bought in 2010, and they donated profits from it to 16 regional nonprofit organizations in 2015. He donated $ 175,000 to four Boys & Girls Clubs in Owego, Binghamton, Syracuse and Endicott in January 2019.

  • Adam Weitsman often went to the auction house with his father over the weekend which made him interested in collecting antiques. In 1982, he had more than 60 pots and often examined who made them, which made the teenager noticed by antique journals. He then took art history classes and worked briefly at Hirschl and Adler Gallery in Manhattan in 1989 before opening the American Folk Art Gallery on Bleeker Street in Greenwich Village in 1991. However, after his sister Rebecca became seriously ill, she was forced to return home to help his father manage the family trash can.
  • For some time, he continued to run galleries on weekends, and also opened an upscale clothing store and nightclub. He became vice president of Ben Weitsman & Son in 1995. In 1997, he founded a new business, Upstate Shredding, at Tioga County Industrial Park in Owego, NY, but his business failed because of the lagging metal industry. However, after a dark period in which he served a prison sentence for bank fraud, he became more determined to redeem himself and gain a reputation.

He sued him for defamation in 2017 and won the case, but to place the case, to clear his name from rumors, he arranged a lie detector test to prove he was innocent.

  • Adam Joel Weitsman was born on June 13, 1968 in Owego, New York, United States. He graduated from the Owego Free Academy in 1986 and then majored in banking at CW Post Campus, Long Island University in 1989. His grandfather, Ben Weitsman, had started a used car parts business in 1938, which later developed into a scrap processing company, Ben Weitsman & Son, in 1958. His father Harold Weitsman managed the company for decades before retiring in the early 2000s. Adam Weitsman acquired the company from his father, in 2005. His sister Rebecca, a trained artist, also helped run the company until she became ill. He later died of colon cancer.
  • Adam Weitsman is married to Kimberly DeFrance, a fashion model. He first met him in New York, in 2000 when he visited his father in Owego. He told her on their first date that he was going to jail, and she asked him if he would do it again. He finally left his job and learned the ropes of the scrap metal business from him before he went to prison and ran his business. The couple married in June 2006 in Skaneateles, NY. They have a daughter named Clover and welcome the twins in 2017; the twins are Monroe and Rae. The couple lived in their Skaneateles house which he had renovated after buying in 2006.
