Pollution damage the environment, humans cause pollution. Pollution includes waste, and factory, agricultural and vehicle waste. There are laws to regulate pollution and groups that work to protect the environment. Even so, pollution is still a big problem. Pollution is the event of the entry of substances, energy, elements, or other adverse components into the environment due to human activities or natural processes. Substance is material that has a fixed composition and composition such as water, earth, air, pure gold and so on.

Pollution or environmental pollution is the entry or inclusion of living things, energy substances, or other components into the environment, or changes in the environmental order by human activities or by natural processes so that the quality of the environment drops to a certain level, causing the environment to become less or no longer functional in accordance with designation.

We can divide the types of pollution into four types, namely air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution, and noise pollution.

  • Air Pollution: Air pollution is caused by dust, particles, burning smoke, cigarette smoke, gases, such as CO, CO2, NO2, CFC. Air pollution can cause various kinds of respiratory ailments.

  • Soil Pollution: Soil pollution is generally caused by household waste pollution. In addition, soil pollution can also be caused by insecticides and pesticides used by farmers to eradicate plant pests. Mining industry activities can also damage the soil.

  • Water Pollution: Water pollution occurs when water sources such as the sea, lakes or rivers have been contaminated with garbage and hazardous waste. As a result, water can no longer be used. Much water pollution is caused by industrial and household wastes discharged into rivers, for example organic waste, detergent water, petroleum, artificial fertilizers and pesticides. The waste will cause water pollution, causing unpleasant odors, decreasing water oxygen levels which endanger the life of aquatic organisms. Indicators of water that has been polluted are changes in odor, color, taste, and temperature.

  • Sound Pollution: Sound pollution is caused by the presence of various kinds of sounds in various sound forces (in decibels), for example the noise of motorized vehicles. Noise pollution can cause interference with the auditory system and then continue with psychological disorders, stress, rising blood pressure, and other health problems.

Amazing Facts About Pollution

Air pollution

Burning fuels such as coal, oil and gasoline produces waste gases. Factories, generators and traffic burn fuel and create exhaust gases, which enter the air. Polluted air is dangerous for human lungs.

When the exhaust gases mix with water in the atmosphere, acid rain forms. Acid rain destroys trees and buildings. When this rain falls into lakes and rivers, it can endanger fish and other animals.

Some gases in the atmosphere function like glass in a greenhouse, which holds heat from the sun. Carbon dioxide is the most important greenhouse gas. Humans release more carbon dioxide into the air. The carbon dioxide comes from vehicle exhausts and power plants. Many scientists say that these extra greenhouse gases make the world warmer. This is what is called global warming.

Humans cause pollution when they throw garbage. Some of the trash is rotten quickly, but many plastic rubbish cannot rot.

There are many types of water pollution. These are waste from factories, waste from human homes, and oil from tanks or pipelines. Some other pollution comes from the soil. Many farmers use chemicals to fertilize the land and to kill insect pests. These chemicals are carried to the river during heavy rain. These chemicals can kill animals and plants that live in the river.

Waste from nuclear power centers is another type of pollution. Almost all nuclear waste is safely packaged, but sometimes there is a little escape. Nuclear waste may remain radioactive, or continue to produce harmful rays for thousands of years.

Scientists around the world are looking for ways to stop the damage caused by pollution. The government has issued laws to control it. Everyone can take part by recycling and using energy wisely.

DO YOU KNOW!In 2002 the Prestige oil tank sank off the coast of Spain. Over the following months, the tank leaked more than 60,000 tons of oil.
